An effective teacher has three characteristics, first is he/she has good classroom management skills, has high expectations for students, and teaches and designs the lesson to achieve the mastery level. Having a good classroom management will help to get your students involved and have them take part in designing and smooth running of the classroom. While having positive expectations in your students will influence their achievements in your class which will lead to their success, and designing lessons to reach mastery will help them to be capable in becoming what they will be. This is very relevant in my present course because as a Special Education teacher, you must have a well-managed classroom first in order to deliver your lessons well.

As a Special Education teacher, it is very important to set high expectations for our students because beyond the academic achievement we must also teach them to be self-directed and to identify and pursue opportunities. Those skills are very necessary in becoming successful adults. I will use the knowledge and skills that I have learned from the seminar as soon as I become a teacher because as a novice teacher these will help to pass the survival stage in teaching. The insight that I have discovered which I can adopt when I become a teacher is the imitating of teaching strategies from the others especially if these strategies will help you deliver your lessons effectively. I truly learned a lot from this seminar, thank you Dr. Wong!
